The Work We Do

About us

Women Beyond Barriers is a feminist  women led organization founded by 2 young women Law graduates from Bajuni and Boni ethnic minority communities in the coastal region whose aim is a just society where ethnic minority women and girls enjoy full land rights and live in dignity with an aim to expand and actualize ethnic minority women and girls’ voice on land rights and justice. Further, the organization focuses on increasing support through public interest litigation and legal aid to marginalized ethnic minority women and girls to amplify their voices so they can challenge social norms and structural discrimination barriers and compel Government to address historical land rights injustices against women and girls. With assistance from our partners, Women Beyond Barriers (WBB) undertakes various activities to facilitate culturally rooted, participatory decision-making processes within communities with the aim of asserting rights over their communally managed lands and traditional knowledge

Mission

To achieve legal and systemic change that addresses violence and discrimination against ethnic minority women and girls.

Goal

A society in which women and men have equal rights under the law, and full enjoyment of their human rights.

-We believe in tackling the most difficult issues, challenging ingrained cultural assumptions and calling out inequality wherever we see it. -And we believe in the power of the law to create enduring equality for women and girls everywhere.

Our Motto

We recognize that Social change often begins with legal change. We help advancing women’s and girls’ rights, because when women and girls, men and boys are treated equally, everyone wins.
